Why We Travel--Rachel
"Abroad is the place where we stay up late, follow impulse and find ourselves as wide open as when we are in love. We live without a past or future, for a moment at least, and are ourselves up for grabs and open to interpretation." This reason for travel resonated with me the most because when I was abroad this was exactly how I felt. When we step out of our routines and our familiar surroundings, we become different people--we can be anyone we want to be. Our past, present and future does not define us. We can experience the wonders of the world following our intuitions not reason.

I think this is a really good point. I go on mission trips in the summers to extremely poor countries, and while I'm there helping those communities I completely forget about my life otherwise. I'm totally invested in my work, my goals for the trip, and the amazing experiences I'm having. Nothing else seems important when you are have such an amazing opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI like this because it truly captures the spirit we grasp when we are abroad. Traveling allows us to forget our lives at home at live in a almost fairytale like state. It also allows us to open up to new ideas and cultures.

ReplyDeleteI agree! When we travel, our past doesn't define us, and we don't have to worry so much about the future. We can be more spontaneous, and really take a step back and examine ourselves and the world around us.
